The Tarpon Springs Sanitation Division keeps our City clean by providing regular sanitation services, such as; garbage collection, special pick-ups, recycling, chemical collection, and a yard waste facility.

2010 HOLIDAY SCHEDULE:  There will be no pick up on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day or New Years' Day!

Garbage Collection:

Garbage is picked up twice each week by our sanitation contractor, Waste Management of Pinellas, Inc.

All residential curbside collection is scheduled for Monday and Thursday.

All trash must be in garbage cans or garbage bags. Maximum can size, including heavy duty plastic garbage bags, is 32 gallons and may not exceed 50 lbs. All garbage must be the curb before 7:00 am on regular pick up days.

Residential customers may place five cans or bags in addition to the recycling bin out for collection.

For large, bulk items that will not fit in a container, call Waste Management to arrange for a special pick up.

Special Pick Ups:

Call Waste Management at (727) 572-8779 to request a special pick-up of bulk items. A cost will be quoted according to size and quantity of items. Charges will be placed on the next month’s utility bill along with an administrative fee.

Residents may take items to the City Yard Waste Facility at 898 S. Levis Ave.; the telephone number is (727) 943-0067. The charge is $80 a ton with a $15 minimum.  PLEASE BRING YOUR UTILITY BILL.

Free curbside clean up for household bulk items is offered twice per year to residents. Pick up days are generally scheduled in the spring and fall.

Construction Dumpsters:

Roll off service is available for large jobs, such as re-roofing. Arrangements must be made through the City of Tarpon Springs Utility Billing Division at (727)942-5609.

Yard Waste Collection:

All yard waste is collected based on the following schedule:

Mondays - West of Pinellas Ave  (Alt 19)

Thursdays - East of Pinellas Avenue

Unlimited quantities of branches, leaves, grass clippings, etc., which have been containerized or tied securely in bundles no more than 4" in diameter, weighing less than 50 lbs., will be collected. Yard Waste should be placed at curb by 7:00 am. on collection days.

No loose piles will be picked up.

Residents paying for curbside recycling may take yard waste uncut or unbundled to the City Yard Waste Facility located at 898 S. Levis Avenue (Up to 5 times per month). We are closed on Sundays and City Holidays. A drivers license and utility bill are required as proof of eligibility. A $5 fee is charged for each resident in a small vehicle or using a small 4' x 8' one-axle trailer.

Residents with larger vehicles, commercial users and residents from outside City limits will be charged a $20 minimum fee with a $52 per ton rate.

Recycling Services:

Residents paying for curbside garbage service are offered weekly curbside recycling service.
All recycling is collected based on the following schedule:

Thursdays - West of Pinellas Avenue

A recycle bin is provided to residents. Newspaper, plastic water, milk and soda bottles, milk and juice cartons, clear, brown and green glass and aluminum and tin cans are co-mingled in the bin and placed curbside by 7:00 a.m. on regularly scheduled collection days. Additional recycling containers are available at the City Clerk's Office located at City Hall, 324 E. Pine Street or the Sanitation Office located at 898 S. Levis Avenue.

Sorry, but we cannot recycle phone books, magazines, or junk mail. Pinellas County Utilities recycles these items at Anderson Park and other drop-off sites. Residents are asked to rinse containers and remove caps from bottles. Two Recycle Drop-Off Recycling Centers are provided at 1025 Gulf Rd. and 898 S. Levis Ave.

Just for Kids offers coloring, activities, music, and games so elementary school children can have fun while learning about recycling, reducing waste, and saving water.

Just for Teachers lists the free resources offered to Pinellas County teachers to help students learn about conservation, including tours, newsletters, speakers, activity books, audiovisual aids, school recycling, and more.

Household Electronics & Chemical Collection:

Pinellas County offers free disposal to all residents for household electronics and hazardous chemicals (such as paint, cleansers, TVs or computers). Residents can bring items to a mobile collection or to the permanent Household Electronics & Chemical Collection Center (HEC3) located at 2855 109th Avenue North, St. Petersburg (727-464-7500). Hours of operation for HEC3 are Monday - Friday from 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.; Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; closed Sundays and County Holidays.

The City of Tarpon Springs, in cooperation with Pinellas County, conducts an annual Household Electronic and Chemical Collection Day every April. The collection is held in the spring in Tarpon Springs City limits and is free to all Pinellas County residents. A flyer announcing the event is included in the City of Tarpon Springs Utility bill approximately 4 – 6 weeks in advance.
